The Story: Grounded is a reflective piece that explores identity, family, and the choices we make through life.
The top left U-shape, represents an individual sitting at a campfire, on the edge of stepping out into the wider world. The circular symbols down the righthand side depict the many paths that lie ahead – the influences and opportunities. They are reminders of how complex and sometimes overwhelming adulthood can be. In the midst of it all, the painting encourages stillness, reflection and pausing before taking the next step.
A white line arcs around the individual figure symbolising the enduring protection, presence and support of family. Though family might not always be physically close, no matter how far one travels, these connections to remain strong.
This piece embraces the pushes and pulls of life, demonstrating that the good cannot exist without the bad. However, just like a bushfire sweeps through and causes destruction, it is also cleansing and from the ashes rise new life and new growth that is stronger, richer, more vibrant than before. Grounded is ultimately a call to remember one’s roots, to stay grounded in values and in culture, and speaks to the strength found in self-reflection and the power of choosing a path that honours where you come from.
