The Story: Palya Wiru (Good, Beautiful) is a celebration of strength, connection, and culture. This painting subtly depicts a basket – an object significant in Aboriginal life and made traditionally by women using tjanpi (native grasses). Used to carry food, water, bush medicine, babies, and for ceremonial purposes, baskets represent the way Aboriginal people carry not just physical items, but also stories, responsibilities, and relationships.
Woven with precision and purpose, each strand reflects the threads of family, culture and Country. At the heart of the painting is a meeting place reminding us that connection lies at the centre of everything. The title, “Good, Beautiful”, speaks to this truth: that what is created with care, held in culture, and shared in community is not only good, but deeply beautiful.
